News Release Contact: Elinor Bugli 775-883-4154 "Counting on It"
The Mile High Jazz Band will be joined by award-winning poets Krista Benjamin, and Rita Geil, plus guest readers, for an evening of jazz and poetry at Comma Coffee on Tuesday, December 9, 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. The theme of the evening, "Counting on It," relates to holidays and to life. The poets take turns and read a poem before each song is played by the big band. "Reading at this venue is a lot of fun," Benjamin said. "Everyone has a chance to 'digest' one poem before hearing the next." "It adds an element of surprise for the audience when they discover the connection between the poem and the song," said David Bugli, band leader and pianist. Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, is across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. General admission is $5 at the door; $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc.; and free for age 18 and under. Swing dance instruction, 6:00-7:30 p.m. is $5 additional. The Mile High Jazz Band plays at Comma Coffee on the second Tuesday of each month, and poets join them every third month.
