The Mile High Jazz Band Association formed in 2001 as a nonprofit corporation
to support the MHJB and its subgroup, the Millennium Bugs (jazz combo), promote
live jazz performance in northern Nevada, educate the public about jazz, and
enrich the cultural life of the community.

"Cool Jazz in January"

Swing into the new year with the Mile High Jazz Band at "Cool Jazz in January,"
a big-band event with vocalist Sheryl Adams at Comma Coffee, on Tuesday,
January 8, 2013, 7:30-9:30 p.m. Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, is across the
street from the state legislature building in Carson City. General admission is $5 at
the door: free for age 18 and under.
The 19-member Mile High Jazz Band performs music in the spirit of Duke Ellington,
Count Basie, Woody Herman, and more contemporary jazz styles from their repertoire
of more than 100 charts. Performances are funded, in part, by a grant from the
Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Millennium Bugs Play for
"Winter Wine & All That Jazz"

Enjoy an evening of wine tasting and dancing to benefit the Brewery Arts Center. The
event is call "Winter Wine & All That Jazz," and "all
that jazz" will be presented by the Millennium Bugs. The event is Saturday, January 19,
2013, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Carson Nugget Ballroom. Experience exceptional wines
from the finest vineyards, live music, and light hors d'oeuvres.

Tenth Annual Mile High-Carson High
Jazz Extravaganza
at the Carson City Community Center
It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band presents the tenth annual
Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, 7:30 p.m., at the
Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St., Carson City. The concert, sponsored by
the Carson High Jazz Band and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, is a benefit for the
Carson High Jazz Band programs.
Tickets are available from Carson High School music students and from Play Your Own
Music, in the Carson Mall.

The Millennium Bugs will play on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, for the Carson Valley Active 20/30 Club
"Night Cap" event at Lentine's Italian Restaurant and Lounge, 1488 US Hwy. 395 N. in Gardnerville.
The Carson Valley #85 Club will be
accepting donations to aid in its local student study rewards program (or tickets are
five dollars). The event is open to all, especially supporters of Carson Valley Days,
those promoting jazz in our community, and the local 20-30 Club.

Millennium Bugs to perform for Annual Pinecone Ball

The Millennium Bugs will be playing for the 2013 Annual Pinecone Ball hosted by greenUP!
The event is on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino,
2707 South Virginia Street, Reno, NV. The cocktail hour starts at 6:00 p.m., and the
Millennium Bugs will play until about 8:00 p.m.
GreenUP! will present Golden Pinecone awards at the event. The annual Golden Pinecone
Awards celebrates the good work of citizens, agencies, non-profits, and
businesses to preserve and enhance the wonderful environment of northern Nevada.
The Golden Pinecones are the only group of awards dedicated solely to
environmental achievements.
GreenUP! is a promotional campaign composed of a number of public and private
organizations and businesses in the Reno area. To quote from the website,
"GreenUP! seeks to spread the word about the power of sustainability to benefit
our business sector and community as a whole." Environmental and economic
sustainability is at the heart of the greenUP! message. To promote these goals,
greenUP! seeks to raise community awareness of projects, programs, resources,
and businesses with green practices as a major part of their focus.

Jazz Workshop for Middle School Students

The Mile High Jazz Band presents a Jazz Workshop for Middle School Students on
Saturday, May 18, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Carson High School. This
Jazz Combo Demo & Workshop for middle
school band students, is especially for those in 8th grade who will be moving on to
high school in the fall, but is also open to interested 6th and 7th graders. It gives
them an introduction to learn jazz technique and an opportunity for hands-on
experience playing with professional and high-school jazz musicians. Students will
attend sessions on improvisation, jazz scales, and rhythm led by Tristan Selzler,
Liz Eubanks, and Aaron Edgcomb. Middle school students will also get to work
with members of the Carson High School Jazz Band and a number of adult performers
from the Mile High Jazz Band.
The workshop culminates in a free public concert at 3:00 p.m. in Senator
Square at Carson High School.

The theme for the evening is "Farewell, Goodnight." The readings are being organized by
Krista Lukas (pictured at left). Joining Ms. Lukas in the reading
of poems are poets Terri Breeden, Rita Geil, Susan Sara Priest, and Amy Roby.

Millennium Bugs play for Taste of Downtown

The Millennium Bugs play for the Taste
of Downtown on Saturday, June 15, 2013,
at Carson Mall from
5:00 to 8:00 p.m. This signature community event, which benefits
the Advocates to End Domestic Violence, stretches
between 13 downtown blocks of historic Carson City, Nevada from Telegraph Square
to 10th street. A mix of restaurants serving out of their own downtown sites as
well as restaurants from outside the downtown area will be serving their faire
from locations set-up on the streets with live bands scattered in between.
Nowhere else can you find such a great collection of culinary delights from
some of the areas best restaurants. Downtown shops and galleries will be open
and offering raffles as well as showcasing their merchandise.
Tickets are $35.00 per person and entitles the holder to sample at each of the
over 30 participating Taste restaurants. Samples are not sold separately. Tickets
are limited to only 2,000 and are available starting June 1st, from Classy Seconds
Thrift Shop and the Advocates' office.

The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Sheryl Adams present an evening
of "Big-band Jazz Under the Stars" at Comma Courtyard on Tuesday, July 9, 2013,

As the opening event of "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival," the Mile High Jazz
Band presents a "Garden Party - Gatsby Style" featuring Cami Thompson and her band
on Friday., Aug. 2, 2013, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Governor's Mansion.
Cami Thompson - singer, band leader, arranger, songwriter, teacher - has gained
a world-wide reputation for wowing audiences with her 4-octave voice of great beauty,
control and passion, her zany wit, blazing scat solos, and her humorous interaction
with her audiences. Combining elements from her training and background in jazz, pop,
musical theater and classical music, she moves through whispering to belting out her
vast repertoire with robust honesty and exciting vibrancy. Her style has been called
"a delightful mix of Ella Fitzgerald and Bette Midler", and she is often compared
to voices like Cleo Laine, Natalie Cole, Barbra Streisand, Barbara Cook and

Speakeasy Dance Party at the BAC Ballroom

The "Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival" presents a new event on Friday,
August 9, 2013, from 8 to 10 p.m. in the historic ballroom in the Brewery Arts Center,
449 W. King Street. The Gatsby Era Speakeasy Dance Party celebrates the end of
Prohibition with music, dance, and art. Admission costs $15 and includes a
commemorative wine or pilsner glass, light refreshments, no-host bar, live band,
artwork, and prizes. All are welcome; age 21 and over, bring ID.
Listen and dance to the toe-tapping music of the Frank n' Dale quintet,
featuring Frank Perry on saxophone, Dale Hampton on trombone, Bill Hecht on piano,
Mac Esposito on bass, and Miles Hampton on drums. Watch artist Deana Hoover create
a unique painting during the event and view her other art works on display.
The new work will be raffled off during the festival, which continues through
Sunday, August 18, 2013.
Although costumes are optional, guests are encouraged to dress in time-period
clothing from the '20s and '30s, and to "cut a rug." Prizes will be awarded for
the best outfits and best dancers.
This Jazz & Beyond event is sponsored by Mile High Jazz Band Association,

In a slight change of pace, the Millennium Bugs will perform in Comma Courtyard
on the second Tuesday in August, namely August 13, 2013, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Normally, the big band, Mile High Jazz Band, plays on the second Tuesday of each month,
but since the big band will be playing on Saturday, Aug. 16, the schedule has
be changed a bit. This is part of the
"Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival." Admission is $5.

Mile High Jazz Band presents Autumn Jazz, a program of big-band music with
vocalists Sheryl Adams and Cindee LaVal on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, 7:30-9:30 p.m.

sing "Witchcraft" and the band will play "Mack, the Knife" and other hard-hitting

This performance is part of World Music Days, an annual global event
affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship, and shared humanity,
inspired by the life and work of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl.

The Mile High Jazz Band and vocalist Sheryl Adams and vocalists Cindee LeVal,
Scott LeVal, and June Joplin will be joined by Rita Geil and other award-winning poets
for an evening of big-band jazz and poetry on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, 7:30 to
9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee. The theme of the
evening, "Past & Present," relates to the
holidays and to life. Poems will be read by poets Rita Geil, Amy Roby, Susan Sara Priest,
Tim Rhodes, and by drummer Lee Warner.
